... in books

by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The author:
Jennifer lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you've heard about her state aren't true. When she's not hard at work writing, she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russel Loki.
Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories....which explains her dismal grades in math. Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She also writes adult romance under the name J. Lynn.

First sentences:
I stared at a pile of boxes in my new bedroom, wishing the Internet had been hooked up. Not being able to do anything with my review blog since moving here was like missing an arm or leg.

Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

My opinion:
Obsidian tells the story of Kat who after her dad’s death moved to a new town where really strange things happen. She has a super hot and sexy neighbor, Daemon Black but he is also extremely arrogant and unfriendly to her. What a jerk! His sister Dee on the other hand is such a loveable and nice girl – so obviously arrogance doesn’t run the family. Dee and Kat soon become really close friends and everything would be fine if there wasn’t this attraction between Kat and Daemon – despite his arrogant behavior.

Obsidian is the first novel in the Lux series and it is extremely well told and full of likeable characters. Daemon is the super hot boy of the novel and the attraction between Kat and him can be felt – I sometimes thought my Kindle was glowing.

The story behind Obsidian is unique and captivating, the characters are well painted and you can easily identify with Kat. Why do you ask? Well, Kat is the owner of a book blog called “Katy’s Krazy Obsession”. What not to love at a character that has the same hobby as you do – reading and blogging. What I really love was that throughout the book there were many book blogging related links like Kat who posted a Waiting on Wednesday or the shirt she wears right at the beginning that says “My Blog is better than you Vlog”.

Obsidian is a wonderful novel full of hot alien boys, loveable next door neighbors, good friends and crazy stuff happening. So if you are into fantasy/science fiction/young adult/good books than I strongly recommend reading this amazing novel. I will surely get Onyx as soon as it gets published!

Obsidian is the first novel in the Lux series.
The other books are:
  • Shadow – Lux #0.5
  • Onyx – Lux #2 (August 14th, 2012)
  • Opal – Lux #3 (December, 2012)

Obsidian is available at Amazon for $ 9,99 / EUR 7,90 / £ 6,29 and for your Kindle too. You can also buy it at Book Depo for $ 9,43 / EUR 7,56 / £ 6,04.
