don't have to read Soulless before reading this one
but I highly recommend it!

Summary:
Alexia Maccon, the Lady Woolsey, awakens in the
wee hours of the mid-afternoon to find her husband, who should be
decently asleep like any normal werewolf, yelling at the top of his
lungs. Then he disappears; leaving her to deal with a regiment of
supernatural soldiers encamped on her doorstep, a plethora of
exorcised ghosts, and an angry Queen Victoria.
But Alexia is armed with her trusty parasol, the latest fashions, and an arsenal of biting civility. So even when her investigations take her to Scotland, the backwater of ugly waistcoats, she is prepared: upending werewolf pack dynamics as only the soulless can. opinion:
It is a
Gail Carriger Steampunk novel – do I really have to tell you how
amazing it is? Whatever, I'll tell you anyway!
Changeless
is the second book in the Parasol Protectorate series and starts
shortly after where we left Alexia at the end of Soulless. Married to
Conall Maccon, werewolf, head of BUR and Alpha to the Woolsey pack,
Alexia tries to adapt to living between a pack of werewolves and to
her new position in Queen Victoria's Shadow Council. She also has to
deal with her friend Ivy Hisselpenny, who is fond of extremely ugly
hats and one of the Woolsey pack claviger, and a strange plague like
illness that affects all the London paranormals for just one day. Due
to this plague werewolves can not change, ghosts get exorcised and
vampires become human.
Alexia is
still the head-strong female leader who is curious, sometimes more
than it's good for her, interested in new inventions and is not told
what to do from anyone. Since being the alpha female of a pack of
werewolves she might have become even more head-strong than before.
When
her husband leaves for a trip back to his home ground Scotland
without even saying goodbye to her (a big mistake) she and a whole
entourage set up North by dirigible. Not only is Alexia accompanied
by her maid, her husband's claviger, Ivy and her sister but also by
Madame Lefoux, a French inventor about which she is not sure. Alexia
likes her but she is still French and does not reveal too much about
herself which makes Alexia wary.
As all of
Gail Carriger's books Changeless is also set in Victorian London
featuring many steampunk elements and wins you over with a wonderful
way storyline and fascinating characters. For me this series is the
perfect mixture of paranormal and steampunk and if you are not sure
you would like full-on paranormal stories try one of Gail's books
first. It will give you a glimpse into a fascinating and amazing
world.
